Philip Torbøl is a founding partner of the firm’s Brussels office. His practice focuses on EU competition law, international trade laws and government strategies.

Mr. Torbøl’s competition experience includes advising clients in matters related to the conduct of dominant companies, cartel investigations, merger control, and state aid. In addition to defending clients before European institutions, Mr. Torbøl’s practice focuses on helping companies define their distribution strategies within the framework of EU competition law – not only preventively, but also to ensure that clients make the most of all available competition law tools and other EU legal instruments, such as trade agreements, internal market rules and consumer protection regulations.

EU laws and regulations are not static and regularly undergo revisions, if not reforms. These changes and implementation often present strategic opportunities to companies and industries. Mr. Torbøl, a former EU official, has substantial experience representing clients in strategic regulatory and legislative processes before European institutions, including the Commission, Parliament, and Council. Mr. Torbøl’s objective is to actively take advantage of the EU’s regulatory framework and reforms to ultimately improve his clients’ commercial position.

Mr. Torbøl’s representation of clients spans over many industry sectors, but he holds particularly strong expertise in the areas of transport, logistics, digital and technological industries, online distribution and consumer electronics.

Mr. Torbøl is a regular contributor to the debate in specialised publications on EU, Competition Law and Trade policy. He has written numerous articles and spoken on many occasions on competition issues to both general and specialized business audiences. He was shortlisted for the Global Competition Review’s 40 under 40 list in 2008.
