Our Chicago office is hosting a unique presentation directed at environmental professionals, including consultants, engineers, and geologists. This presentation will touch on the types of products that can be patented, the process for obtaining a patent, and the steps for protecting your patent. We will discuss what steps you need to take to determine how to manage the use of a product subject to someone else’s patent. We will also examine integrating the patent issue into the contractual relationship with the client.

Patent issues may not be common in the environmental consulting world, but they are present and you need to learn about them. On the one hand, you may have an idea or a product, for example, a new type of monitoring or remediation system, which could be patented and become an important resource for you and your firm, but only if you take steps to protect it. On the other hand, you may want to use certain products or materials that are subject to patent claims and therefore potentially subject to the rights of the patent holder. It is then important to know how to approach the use of these materials to determine what steps you need to take to avoid additional payments or other consequences.

A reception will immediately follow the presentation.
