Washington, D.C. - Global law firm K&L Gates LLP has added Jonathan M. Cohen as an insurance coverage partner in its Washington, D.C., office. Cohen joins K&L Gates from Gilbert LLP.
Cohen represents policyholders and others on a wide range of insurance coverage matters, including complex disputes involving product liability, product recalls, and supply chain issues, as well as advising on clients’ risk management strategies. He frequently represents food and supplements manufacturers and has been involved in numerous asbestos-related cases, bankruptcies, and post-bankruptcy proceedings.
“We’re excited to welcome Jonathan to our ever-growing office,” said David T. Case, administrative partner of K&L Gates’ Washington, D.C., office. “His deep experience in a variety of insurance coverage and bankruptcy issues will be valuable to clients across our global platform as well as expand our capabilities in Washington.”
Cohen has served as a co-chair of the bankruptcy and insolvency subcommittee of the insurance coverage litigation committee of the ABA’s section of litigation since 2010, and also regularly represents civil rights organizations and individuals in high-stakes appellate litigation. He has filed amicus briefs in more than a dozen U.S. Supreme Court cases involving civil rights and other issues, and he assisted U.S. Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg in preparations for her Senate confirmation hearings.
Cohen’s arrival follows the addition of eight other lawyers to the firm’s Washington, D.C., office in 2017, including public policy and law partner Amanda Makki, consumer financial services partner John ReVeal, government enforcement partner Michael T. Dyson, intellectual property and international trade practices partner Tyler Hong Shik Won, energy partner Elias B. Hinckley and counsel James R. Wrathall, tax-exempt organizations of counsel Barry J. Hart, and public policy and law of counsel Scott Nelson.
For more than 30 years, the lawyers of K&L Gates have been developing and implementing innovative legal strategies to assist businesses and individuals in obtaining insurance coverage for an ever-increasing range of liabilities and losses. Nearly 100 of the firm’s lawyers, located in offices on several continents, are concentrated in what has become one of the largest policyholder-side insurance coverage practices according to Business Insurance.
