K&L Gates Adds Commercial Litigation Partner in Portland

30 April 2018
Portland - The Portland office of global law firm K&L Gates LLP welcomes John C. Rothermich as a partner in its complex commercial litigation and disputes and government investigations practices. Rothermich joins the firm from Garvey Schubert Barer.

Rothermich represents clients in complex litigation, critical business disputes, and regulatory and government investigations, including False Claims Act suits and qui tam actions, health care fraud investigations, real estate and land use disputes, tax litigation and appeals, and commercial contract and employment disputes. His extensive experience includes representation of a transportation company in a $250 million False Claims Act suit; the State of Oregon and Cover Oregon in litigation related to the state health insurance exchange website; the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation (FDIC) in a complex professional liability suit; physicians and laboratories in connection with health care fraud investigations by the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ) and the Office of Inspector General; and individuals targeted by the DOJ for possible criminal antitrust charges, among other matters.

“We are excited to have John join us and add to our growing commercial litigation group,” said Brendan Gutierrez McDonnell, administrative partner of K&L Gates’ Portland office. “John’s experience in government investigations, False Claims Act suits, and health care and commercial contract disputes will dovetail nicely into the firm’s global litigation platform. We see John as a great cultural fit for the office and the firm.”

Rothermich’s arrival follows the addition of tax and private clients partner Jeffrey Joy to K&L Gates’ Portland and Orange County offices earlier this month.

With more than 500 commercial disputes lawyers on five continents, K&L Gates’ disputes practice has the breadth, experience, and sophistication to successfully resolve matters ranging from simple commercial claims to complex multi-party, cross-border litigations and arbitrations. BTI Consulting Group’s Litigation Outlook 2018 survey named K&L Gates as a “Standout” firm in all eight areas of litigation in which BTI annually rates firms, including class actions and torts, IP litigation, securities and finance litigation, complex commercial litigation, everyday commercial litigation, complex employment litigation, everyday employment litigation, and product liability litigation.
