Melbourne - Global law firm K&L Gates LLP has bolstered its labor, employment and workplace safety team with the appointment of Steven Amendola as a partner in the firm’s Melbourne office. Amendola joins K&L Gates from Ashurst.

With 35 years of experience working as a workplace relations and employment lawyer, Amendola is widely recognized as one of Australia’s leading practitioners in industrial relations. He acts for both Commonwealth Government and private sector clients in a range of industry sectors and has been involved in a number of high-profile matters such as the national waterfront dispute and test cases relating to issues such as right of entry, bargaining fees, and industrial action.

Amendola has a particular focus on assisting clients with the enforcement and freedom of association provisions of the Fair Work Act 2009, key provisions dealing with collective agreement making, and various discrimination issues.

Amendola said: “Australia’s industrial relations environment continues to be a hotbed of activity with high-profile disputes dominating press coverage. K&L Gates has a reputation in the marketplace as a go-to firm for handling those disputes and I’m excited to be part of that team.”

“Steven is known in the market for his tough negotiation and litigation skills that greatly benefit his clients,” stated Nick Nichola, K&L Gates’ Managing Partner, Australia. “His extensive experience allows him the ability to think strategically and methodically to help clients avoid costly and lengthy disputes whilst effectively managing workplace incidents and investigations. We are very pleased to welcome Steven to the partnership.”

Labor, employment and workplace safety special counsel Dominic Fleeton has also joined K&L Gates’ Melbourne office, having previously worked with Amendola.
