GDPR - The Countdown Begins

24 May 2017

On 25 May 2018, the much anticipated General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) comes into force. The European Commission promises that the new regulation ‘will establish one single set of rules which will make it simpler and cheaper for companies to do business in the EU’, however, GDPR also threatens to significantly increase fines for non-compliance, and will affect all companies (even those located outside the EU) doing business in the EU.

To mark the one year countdown to GDPR, our interactive webinar will address some of the following questions:

  1. Global impact, more duties, higher sanctions: how companies should prioritize their compliance program?
  2. How to choose between consent, contractual requirement and legitimate business purposes?
  3. Privacy Impact assessments and internal organization around a DPO: mixing top-down and bottom-up approaches
  4. Anticipating technical requirements resulting from the GDPR: evidencing consent, data breach, data retention and data portability
  5. Turning regulatory requirements into business opportunities: developing awareness, synergies and empowering business stakeholders

The webinar will be led by:

  • Etienne Drouard - Paris partner, member of the firm's European Data Privacy Practice based in Paris, and formerly a member of the French Data Protection Authority appointed by the European Commission during the the preparation of the General Data Protection Regulation.

Supported by:

  • Friederike Gräfin von Brühl - Berlin
  • Andrew Gilchrist - London
  • Alessandra Feller - Milan
  • Oskar Tułodziecki - Warsaw
  • Ignasi Guardans - Brussels
