K&L Gates’ Brussels office was established as our seventh office in Europe. In addition to being Belgium’s capital and its largest city, Brussels is the administrative center of the European Union and the location of the EU Commission, the Council, and the European Parliament. The Brussels office has an international and a national practice that focuses on EU competition and regulatory issues and transactional/commercial matters.
Our competition and regulatory practice covers all aspects of EU competition law, including state aid, merger control, cartel investigations and anti-competitive behavior, as well as advice on a broad range of regulatory issues across a variety of industry sectors. Our team, which works closely with lawyers in our other European offices, has a wealth of experience handling cases before the European Commission and national competition authorities. Our clients include private equity funds, industrial and conglomerate groups, financial institutions, and iconic brands.
In addition, our European public policy and market access group advises clients on how to better understand and shape regulatory and legislative actions affecting their businesses. We have an in-depth understanding of the regulatory and policy procedures of the EU and access to EU and national decision-makers. Clients include European and non-European businesses and trade associations. The practice also helps international clients navigate the European and global financial services policy and regulatory landscape with all banking and capital markets regulation. The practice also has particular experience advising clients on the adoption and ongoing implementation processes of the European Union’s chemicals policy and assisting industry groups and individual companies on meeting their REACH obligations and maintaining their ability to market and use their products based on sound compliance strategies.
Our transactional practice advises multinational and Belgian corporations on a wide range of corporate and commercial transactions and related matters, including cross-border, private and public mergers and acquisitions, joint ventures, commercial contracts, distribution and licensing arrangements, and dispute resolution. Clients include investment funds and companies in the high technology, logistics, textile, automobile, and pharmaceutical sectors.
Our lawyers are ranked by Chambers and Partners Global in the European and Italian Competition Law in Belgium.
